This is the piece of junk I have and have had nothing but problems with it.
Ditch the Belkin.
Find one by Netgear. Or at the very least Linksys…but I’ve been dumped all my Linksys products over the last few years as they’ve been dying in favor of Netgear.
They do take a bit of understanding to get set up, but I’ve had very few problems with them (and I’m running three right now) once I get them programmed the way I want them.
The Apple Airport Extreme is good - it’s the only router I’ve ever had that didn’t need regular rebooting in heavy use.
It has fewer configurable features than others though. If you want QoS settings and things like that, it’s not for you.
Ive had no issues with Linksys
Im not sure if other off-products have the same issue with Windows propriety. When ever I get an update from a Windows Prop product, it attempts to set my system to Windows Wireless.
Not hard to fix, but annoying
Another vote for Netgear.
It is a solid performer and the driver works properly, which is not true for the Belkin I just spent 5 hours configuring this afternoon.
Argh. But you work with what you have.
I’ve got a Belkin dual-band router; I selected Belkin based on other people’s experience with the range. I’ve been impressed with the range, but the management software is twitchy…it refuses to work on a Windows 7 machine if more than one account is active. I haven’t had problems with it since I figured that out though. It requires a restart every few months or so. Oh, its default update setting occasionally results in your entire network unexpectedly going down when the router decides it’s time for a firmware update.
I had used Linksys routers before the Belkin, and had the same problem every time…the router would eventually get to the point that it would require multiple resets per day. They didn’t require the installation of any special management software at the time.
