I have heard people on both sides of the gun control issue decry the Federal ban which expired a few years back as a cosmetic law that had no real meaning. From what I’ve read of it, this seems largely true. But there is another claim I’ve heard, that the draft legislation had some real teeth and meaning, but was watered down to irrelevancy by the compromises made to get something passed.
However, I cannot find the original draft legislation as introduced to Congress. Can someone with better Google fu than I point me in the right direction?
Just so you know, the assault weapons ban was Title XI of the last bill on that list, and does not appear in the other versions. The “draft version” of the AWB is not here, only the final version.
