So I downloaded it at the wise suggestion of SenorBeef for a good price from Steam. However, I can’t access the various additional content that came with it without “logging in” to an account. I thought it would all be automatic, instead of me having to buy all the expansions in addition to buying to game. Or perhaps there’s somethingI’m missing.
I didn’t get DA from Steam, so not sure how that works, but yeah…I had to create an account on their system to get the DLC content (I think I had to buy Microsoft points or something like that to get the DLC’s…it’s been a while).

You sign up for an account somehow or other, then either paste in the CD keys that Steam helpfully provides in the appropriate boxes, or else it happens automatically; sorry, it was long enough ago that I don’t remember exactly how it worked.
Assuming you’ve already created an account with Bioware, you need to redeem your CD keys at the Dragon Age website. This page at the Steam forums should tell you what you need to do: Steam Community :: Discussions
It’s a complicated, somewhat buggy mess as I recall. I had to register the game there, activate the DLC with a code. Then when I run the game, I log on to my account, then immediately log off; if I try to stay logged on it flags all my DLC as "unauthorized, apparently I’m not the only person with the problem.
Two mods I find useful; a mod that adds a storage chest to your camp, and the Advanced Party mod that lets you choose your companion’s point distributions and power choices instead of them being auto-chosen when they join you. Very useful (especially once you’ve played enough to know what you want), since the default choices are generally so-so and you get some of the companions quite a bit later than others.
these are the steps to install the DA:O Ultimate edition dlc from steam -

[li]after installation, a webpage will open to the bioware’s “redeem promo code” page. [/li][li]create an account with them[/li][li]copy the single steam’s popup DLC cd key and paste it in the promo code page. [/li][li]start the game and make sure you are logged in on the lower left corner. [/li][li]click on Downloadable Content and check that the various DLCs are installed. (they should already be. )[/li][li]??[/li][li]profit![/li][/ol]
on that note, does anyone have any recommendations as to which DLC to enable first? i was thinking about enabling them according to their release date, maybe after finishing the game when i might be itching for more to do?
I enabled them all right away, and it worked out fine for me. If you’re a purist of one stripe or another, you might be bothered by the few items available from the DLC’s that aren’t in the original game, but I didn’t find them to be especially unbalancing, and of course you can just elect not to use them.
I played the expansion DLC’s (you know, the standalone ones, as opposed to the ones that plug right into the original game) in between Origins and Awakenings. I did find that the Golems of whatchamacallit adventure was a bit too tough for my min/max Rogue right after the original game, but did just fine when I ran my post-Awakenings guy through there.
Yeah, I’d just enable them all - they aren’t generally end game stuff.
You’re right, it does seem to all be a weird process. So far, this game has introduced me to the concept of dwarven hookers, which I was happier not knowing about.
oh ok
