I realize I’m a bit behind the curve here with Dragon Age, since it’s been out for quite a while. I actually bought the game when it first shipped, but simply didn’t have the time to play it until recently. At any rate, I’m most of the way through the game (and have bought all the DLC’s to date), and am enjoying it more than I have an RPG in a long time.
My question is, what are some of the best weapons and armor in the game for the various classes (or, what are your favorite pieces of armor)? My character is a forest elf (run elf run!), class rogue, and the weapons and armor I have I got basically at the very beginning of the game…in the very first dungeon in fact. I’m using the Falon’Din’s Reach and Ancient Elven Armor (Veridium) which I’ve had nearly the entire game. I simply haven’t found anything better. The swords I am using are Duncan’s weapons that I’ve had for a pretty long time as well (you get them if you have the return DLC).
Also, a quick question…has anyone been able to get Alistair to marry the princess? Every time I have played through that part of the game they agree to marry, but when I (or Alistair) duel her father and kill him she refuses, so I basically grant the crown to him (if you go the other way he takes off…with all the best weapons and armor in my party!). So, is there a way to untangle the dialogue tree to have things come out as they supposedly agreed, where Alistair will lead but (and I can’t recall her name) the princess will rule? Is there any way to spare her father AND keep Alistair in the party?
I think there’s a way to keep Alistair, but you can also exchange Alistair for Loghain.
Anyways, with the weapons and what not, I’ve wondered the same thing. I’ve started many new characters and haven’t finished the game with any of them.
The Blood Dragon armor is really good, as is the Juggernaut Armor, and the Massive Dragonbone Armor you get from the armorer in Denerim. Those might be the three best suits of armor. There are some massive dwarven suits of armor that are good. The Warden Commander armor from the Warden’s Keep DLC is solid. Cailan’s Armor is pretty lame, though.
Weapons? I’m still trying to figure that out. Assuming you have Grandmaster runes equipped, Cailan’s sword, Starfang, Duncan’s sword, Spellreaver (or whatever it’s called), Bloodline, the Veshialle, and Aodh seem to be in the uppermost tier.
Never seen the blood dragon or Juggernaut armor. I have Wade’s massive dragon bone armor (on the dwarf), and am still using the kings armor on Alistair at this point. I’ve had most of the weapons enchanted (though you can’t enchant bows, sadly), but I just haven’t found any really kickin’ bows or other weapons in the game…mostly I’m still using what I’ve used for 2/3rds of the game at this point.

Bows and two-handed weapons don’t have the same kick. With the glut of really good weapons, I’m going about buying every health poultice I see and equipping Alistair with two weapons, same with my main character (a rogue). I figure with Wynne healing and Morrigan dishing out pain (and sideboob), I can take things out with large amounts of offense.
The Blood Dragon armor you get as DLC for preordering the game. If you didn’t, then you might not be able to get it. I don’t know. The Juggernaut armor is in the Dalish quest.
I must have missed that quest. I assume it’s plate armor though, so it wouldn’t really do a frail rogue elf much good anyway.
I can’t see any way to make this work…I can’t get Alistair to marry the princess no matter what I do. It always comes down to a fight, and I either have to execute Loghain or Alistair leaves. There doesn’t seem any thing I can say in the dialog tree that lets me keep both for the final battle…which kind of sucks, as I could use another decent tank in the second party.
You have to inspect the graves scattered around the forest and fight the undead that pop out. One of the battles in aprticualrly hard, but the armor is extremely tough, probably the absolute best in terms of protection. It stops almost antyhing and turns anyone who can wear it into a walking tank. The strength requirement is rough, though.
He’s pretty good, but you can’t really give him armor or arms…just crystals. I used him for quite a while but switched up to Alistair, the dwarf and Wynn as my main party for about the last 1/3 of the game (including the final series of battles culminating in Alistair’s death while killing the archdemon). I’m guessing that I should have taken the dark witches advice and slept with her. This game is really a marvel of difficult morale and ethical choices…one of the best RPGs I’ve played in a long time. I have only played through once and I can see I missed a lot. I might restart an older save and try and get the armor mentioned above, as well as get the Bard skill for my rogue and figure out if there is a way to ‘turn’ Alistair so that I can get him and Loghain at the end…which means I can have HIM take the final blow and die gloriously, instead of Alistair.
Now I’m all hot and bothered about getting the expansion. I assume it will pick up where this one left off and I’ll be able to continue on with my character, which will be nice.
re: the Alistair thing. To keep him for the final battle, loghain must die. if you convince them to marry then you can recruit loghain and Ali will still become king, but won’t join you in the final battle.
The spoiler alert is in the thread title, so anyone reading this should back away quickly as there will be open spoilers in the thread.
If I understand what you are saying there Musky Moon, you can not have both in the party for the final battle…correct? That…kind of sucks, as that means the only way to save both my character and Alister is to sleep with Morgana and give her a demon child. Correct?
Not true. The Dual-Ass Combo is good for melee, but Bard/Ranger in incredibly butt-kicking for Ranged Combat. It’s almost a magic “you kill things” option.
My character is a rogue, but my spec is definitely ranged. Kind of disappointing that the bow I’m still using is one I found in the first dungeon though.
As far as I can tell Falon’Din’s Reach is the best bow in the game. I used it for pretty much the entire game too. The only DLC I had was shale. As for armor it depends on what type you want. I played as a rogue with light armor and the best armor I found (did everything in the game basically) I got pretty early too which is Wade’s Superior Drakeskin. I missed out on the Felon’s Coat because I got it though. I did end up switching in Shadow of the Empire later.
As for weapons it depends on how you’re going to use them. A dual wielding rouge, that you pretty much maxed everything into dex, that has The Rose’s Thorn in one hand and a Tier 7 Crow Dagger or other good dagger will drop ridiculous damage.
