DragonCon 2006

I’ll be there, and it will be my first DragonCon. I’m planning to take lots of pictures and I’m hoping to get a couple of books signed.

I have only been to one other big convention - in Columbus, GA when I was a young teenager - so I only have the most vague idea of what to expect. But I’m excited.

While I’m sure that’s a spectacle, and fun, the main reason I want to go is for the costuming workshops.

Kari’s going to be at DragonCon? Really??

A friend of mine is going. I opted not to. Now I find out Kari is going to be there.

[Darth Vader]NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!![/Darth Vader] :smack:

I first worked security at a DragonCon back in '89 or '90, back when I was working right out of high school-- the most memorable thing I recall are the costuming parades and the dudes running around carrying medieval-style weapons. I also attended the year after DC’s KINGDOM COME came out and had discussions with Mark Waid, Jeff Smith, Michael Dorn and the WB’s Paul Dini.

As a Greater Atlanta resident, I can attest to the ridiculous food prices of most downtown hotels outside of cheapo fast food resturants. I suggest if y’all want to venture out and see some of the REAL Atlanta and authentic southern food, y’all can catch MARTA at the downtown train station at Peachtree Center, and go up a few stations to Art Center Station, Lindbergh and/or Lenox Mall and see a few sights.

If I wasn’t so broke, I’d go to DragonCon-- its definitely been awhile. But maybe we can meet up outside the paid convention areas.

Or if you have time, catch a cab to the Virginia Highland neighborhood (bars, restaurants and shops), or the funkier Little 5 Points or East Atlanta Village. Or take MARTA out to Decatur, where there are multiple cool restaurants a short walk from the station (some construction going on at the Decatur station though).

I dunno, though. Wandering around DragonCon is so entertaining in itself, I don’t imagine you’ll need to wander around the city looking for more fun. Maybe if you’re staying an extra day or two.
