Very good episode. I like the eye chart with all Ls. I have to admit that it took me a moment to realize that Ling-Ling was speaking English after his operation.
How do they manage to keep this show so thoroughly, hopelessly unfunny? With every single joke, they go for offensive instead of funny. Offensive and funny would be fine.
I love it when they have Spanky and Foxxy hang out. They look so natural together. Even when they’re silent when a character walks in on them and gets the plot rolling, you can completely envision the mundane, budding-best-friends action leading up to that point. Foxxy complains that she needs to go get her hair done, Spanky brags that he knows how to cornrow, Foxxy expresses disbelief and wants proof, Spanky starts to do her hair, Foxxy gives shocked praises to Spanky, Spanky responds with a smug told-you-so, he continues the conrowing while they make sporadic small-talk, and then Clara walks up demanding to be let in on the doo-doo on a pizza prank.
I’m glad to see that Ling Ling – my favorite character – is getting plenty more screen time. This is the second episode this season where he’s been a major player.
That leaves Toots as the only one that has yet to really come out from the shadows. Not looking forward to that, however, as her shrill manner just grates on me.
In closing, I wish they would scale back Foxxy and Hero a bit. They get too much screen time. Spanky is the only headliner that really merits all the play he gets.
I loved the Asian view of the world, the fact that they never pointed out what NAAYP stands for (although it’s easy to figure out), and Captain Hero’s obsession with things with “Super” in the name.
“You don’t stand a chance, Supersalad!”
“No, I said soup or salad. You see, I was giving you a…” (dies)
The funny thing is that when I was five or six years old, I thought it was ‘super salad’.
We’d visit my grandmother in Anaheim, and we’d often go to a nearby restaurant. The waitress offered me a choice of soup or salad, and I said enthusiastically, ‘Super salad!’
