My old roommate said that, if you’re on a date with him and you use a straw, it’s an instant deal-breaker. (That being said, he’s very high-maintenance and fickle)
Straws are sissy sticks? Wow this is an encouraging thread. I guess I am a sissy then because I probably would drink everything out of a straw if I could. I even drink my coffee from a straw…it makes for a fairly efficient cooling tower. Physics!
I will drink a cold beverage through a straw if I have to drink from a can or bottle. If there’s a glass available, I drink directly from that. I cannot imagine drinking any hot beverage through a straw.
Far be it from me to construct a biased or leading poll
Since you didn’t vote, though, your world view is not represented in the data and will be lost forever. I’m sure the Simthsonian will want this information for posterity.
So if you use the drive through at a fast food restaurant and your order includes a drink, when you receive the drink you immediately remove the lid and straw and drive around with it sloshing out all over the place?
I don’t use straws at home, but I do in restaurants. I seem to have the problem of the ice sticking together and then having it hit my teeth while all the beverage goes on my shirt. I also have a lot of cavities, and hope that the Coke bypasses my teeth when I drink with a straw.
I drink a lot of water too. I basically have the aduilt version of a sippy cup - one of those camelbak bottles. I have one at home and one at work. I don’t spill,I get lots of fresh water etc.it I think its just neater to drink from a straw, and especially on long car trips!
I use a straw in cold drinks when I’m at a restaurant or grabbing a drink from a convenience store. I don’t use them with bottles or cans, but I prefer a fountain drink with a straw.
I don’t use straws at home. I’ve never really thought out the reasoning. I think I see it as an unnecessary expense at the grocery store, but if you’re going to give me one with the price of my drink, I’ll take it.
I use a straw when I get a drink at fast food, which is pretty rare. Also, those hollow swizzle sticks in your cocktail and not really meant to be used as straws; drink like an adult.
This is my pattern. If it’s an open top glass and there is ice - a straw. If it’s a disposable cup with a lid - straw even if there’s no ice. Especially cheap waxed cups.
Edited to concur with madmonk28 - those little straws in cocktails are not for drinking. Also if I order a margarita with salt lay off the damn straw!
Never at home with a drink I’ve poured myself. If I buy a drink at a fast food place and it comes in one of those flimsy waxed cardboard cups with the plastic lid, yeah of course I use the straw that comes with it. In a restaurant with a glass filled with ice, that also needs a straw.
This is only for non-alcoholic drinks and never with hot drinks, that’s just bizarre.
Straws are for children, and stir-sticks (the ‘thin’ tubes you get with mixed drinks) should under no circumstances ever be used as a straw. Those with dissenting opinions will be first against the wall when the revolution comes.
