Driving from Milwaukee to SW corner of MN

I’ll be picking up my SO from visiting her mom in SD, and I’ll be meeting them halfway somewhere in the southwest end of Minnesota (Jackson, Worthington, Sibley, IA ish).

I’ve done that drive once before, and I hated it, passionately. I guess that driving long distances isn’t for me. I did it last year with an overnight stay before returning.

I’d really, really like to do it in one day this time. Is this feasible? Will I get road madness? Will my butt fall off?

Roundtrip will be about 850 miles.

I drove about that far in June in one day, and I was alone. I like driving long distances. My drive was pretty boring (94 through MN, ND & into MT). Walk around when you stop to get gas, don’t drink too much (otherwise bathroom breaks will get out of control and waste time) and use your cruise control. Bring good tunes and snack foods.

Round trip, that’s one heckuva drive. For calculating long distance drive times, even across SD where it’s 75mph, I usually figure a base of 50mph, which allows for minimal meal and gas stops. That would put your trip at 17 hours. Woof. That’s one long friggin’ day in a car!

I assume you’ll do 94 to 90, then across 90 to wherever.

Yikes! My butt will fall off!

New plan… Leave Friday after work, sleep in… (checks cheapest hotel reservations…) Estherville, IA, continue fresh in the morning.

Estherville, here I come!

I hope they’re ready for me…
