Alexa can be snarky enough, I don’t need extra-snarky Rosie with her metal claws zipping around on her one wheel giving me the business.
I don’t need a robot to tell me I’m a piece of shit, my inner voice does that well enough thank you.
If I had to pick one piece of Jetsons technology I’d like to see done for real (if it actually worked), it would be the pill that provides a full meal. One swallow and you are full and satisfied, and have all the nutrition you need. I could absolutely have that in my life.
Wow at all these negative driving sentiments. I make no apologies for being a car nut, and one of my fave pastimes is just to cruise somewhere while listening to my tunes and enjoying the breeze and skies. Same planet different multiverses…
I used to love driving, but that was back when cars were interesting, parking was usually free, highways had character, and traffic congestion was confined to ten hours a week. I can’t wait to get rid our personal cars and take autonomous vehicles where ever we need to go.
I used to absolutely love driving when I was younger. I aspired to it when I was a kid and was ever grateful to my older brother who patiently taught me to drive, and I was in heaven when I got my license and my first car!
But at my current age driving gives me the jitters. To save money I no longer have collision coverage, just liability and comprehensive. And if I got into an accident (I have not in 50+ years of driving, but it can happen) at my age I’d have to re-take a driving test, as my friend had to do when he recently totalled his new car.
I certainly hope so! As I’ve mentioned several times, my friend’s Tesla scares the shit out of me, and i certainly don’t think a self driving car that i can afford is anywhere close. And it’s taking longer than i hoped. But I’m still hoping for the technology to arrive. I’d love to have a self driving car.
And I’m really shocked by the early replies. There are people who actively enjoy the act of driving? I don’t hate it (unless i need to do a lot of it) but enjoy? That’s bizarre to me. It’s just a chore.
I picked 4 in the driving poll, but it really depends on the kind of driving. I don’t really like my commute, mostly because I get frustrated by the traffic. But I love a weekend drive on a twisty back road in my convertible. I’d pick 5 if it was just limited to that type of driving.
Depends utterly on where and why you’re (I’m really) driving.
I love controlling responsive machines in real time dynamic situations. I let HAL drive in traffic jams. I let HAL drive when the top is down, the music is up, the weather is perfect, and there’s incredible scenery to watch.
It’s been about 15 years since I gave up my favorite type of driving, but I still enjoy regular street driving, although not as much as running on the track.
Heh. I’m not a big fan of city driving, but I can do it, of course. My ex-wife, however, had no problems at all with it, and she would drive us around town.
Where she had qualms, though, was being behind the wheel for long road trips on the highway. No problem, those were my domain. So on such trips, I’d take us between cities, then we’d swap, and she’d drive us in the city.
