Driving to CA from AZ

So, Dad was interred at the Vet’s cemetery in Riverside, CA and we are planning to visit at the end of the month.

What can I expect? Are masks still worn in CA? Do people still social distance or has that gone away? Remembering that I mostly drive 2 lane highways, how scared am I going to be on the freeway? What’s the average speed limit on CA freeways? Are there any scenic routes that I might want to use? This is going to be my last trip to South CA, is there anything I should do lest I regret the missed opportunity to the end of my days?

California is fully open. If you’re vaccinated, you don’t have to wear a mask. If you’re unvaccinated, it is suggested you continue to wear a mask. The cemetery may have its own rules for wearing masks which you are fully expected to honor.

Thank you. Mom and I are both full vaccinated, but are willing to follow social guidelines. So…what are people doing? Here in Arizona, nobody is wearing a mask (except a few people wearing masks with messages that they hope will piss off the libs.)

We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Colton (not my choice). Do you have any idea how that will be?

The pandemic has helped me to understand that most people in my part of the world are self entitled jerks and things have just gotten worse. Are people in other parts of the world any nicer?

Where are you that no one is wearing a mask? It’s definitely still happening here in Tucson.

I haven’t driven from Arizona to California but maybe visit Dateland? Get a date shake?

If you’re coming via the 10, there’s not much to see outside of Joshua Tree National Park, Palm Springs, an Indian Casino, and some outlet stores. As for food, Mr. Taco in Redlands is worth a stop. Oh yeah, vaxed folks in CA are done with masks.

A lot depends on where in AZ you’ll be coming from. Are you coming from the northwest and taking I-15 in?
Or will you be taking I-40? Or I-10? Or I-8?

Well, that all depends. What kind of things do you enjoy doing?

Riverside is a long way from all the good stuff in southern California. It’s at least an hour to “the city”, more to the beach. But there certainly is a ton orm two tons of things to do and see.

Except for the dinosaurs at Cabazon. Those are still cool, and if you take “the I-10” you go right past them.

Very odd, I was in Tucson last Wednesday. We made several convenience store stops and had brunch at IHOP. I saw a total of 4 masks and one of them was a MAGA with his nose hanging out. We met the breeder at his home and none of us were masked but we also knew each others vax status.

Regardless, I am in Yavapai county and we never believed in masks or COVID.

I’m not too big on casinos or outlet stores, but Joshua Tree is kinda cool. I will plan on a stop for Mr Taco, Redlands has always been nice.

Thank you for the reminder of the dinosaurs, Bullitt. I had totally forgotten about those.
