I figured they were thinking about “Bombs over Baghdad”, but also figured that was probably me thinking about it.
I wonder how many of these sightings are due to morans blowing the dust off their old Christmas presents and wanting to get in on the crazy. Gotta laugh at all the eye witnesses who think they can estimate a drone’s size or speed when there nothing around to compare it to.
Our local FB group has a series of posts like “see! they’re real!” as they upload grainy phone footage of the flight path to Logan Airport. People are just so fucking stupid.

A conspiracy theory I’ve heard is that the drone hubbub is being pushed to distract people from talking more about the UHC murder and Luigi Mangione. Now, I’m not saying I believe it, but it is a little plausible……
The drone story pre-dated that murder, although not by very long.
Now they are attacking Florida.
I’m concerned some politicians are going to cash in on this mass hysteria to pass some sort of nonsensical or overly-strict hobbyist drone regulations.
I did a day trip to Disney yesterday, via our local high speed train. Around 8:30pm I got back to the train station for my trip home, and saw a sign advertising the drone show. Even pointed it out and noted that we missed the second show, since it was at 8pm.
So, um… This just isn’t a thing anymore? What happened to the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth?

Christmas cut down the reporting greatly and the minor hysteria declined greatly.
My wife got a drone for Christmas. 
The FAA also temporarily banned most drone flights for a month. Any hobbyist who had their drone out now cannot legally fly it in those areas. Whether to troll or to try to see what was going on some of the real sightings were hobbyist drones.
And here I was just starting to enjoy the spate of posts to our local subreddit of people saying they live near the airport and took a blurry picture of an unidentified object with red and green flashing lights on it that DEFINITELY isn’t the Alaska Airlines flight from Missoula coming in for a landing.
