Yeah I have quite a few bands to listen to now. Thanks a lot!
Seconding Boiled in Lead and The Fenians. Not punk in the same way DkM are. This is a good thing. Do or Die is by far their best album, no question. I agree with RedRoses; they changed a lot.
The Fenians are fucking awesome live, FTR.
I know a lot of people love Black 47. I’m not huge on them, but they haven’t been mentioned, so I figured I’d do so.
My personal favorite band of that sort-of genre is The Kissers. Even better live than The Fenians, and a lot of their songs are original. They don’t fall into the nu-punk trap, which is even better, and. . .they started off as a Pogues cover band.
And. . .it’s not the exact same genre, but everyone I know that has loved Celtic Punk has loved Gogol Bordello when I’ve told them about it (and I found out about them from this board).
Also, check out Gaelic Storm. Far more traditional, but still fun. Same with Great Big Sea.
Yes, I know of Gogol Bordello and they’re awesome. I’ve listened to them quite a bit.
Ha, I just started a thread about the Gogol Bordello show here in July.
Ha! Terry Casey, lead singer and mandolin player for The Fenians, played Gogol Bordello for me once- it was… interesting!
Indeed- and we see them all the time out here! Get yourself the live DVD on their website if you can’t catch a show near you…
