The Dropkick Murphys

I have an incredible mound of work to get through this week. BUT I get to work from home and listen to music to keep me company. Gonna see how much Dropkick Murphys I can get through, starting at the beginning, before I put on some work clothes and start picketing the nearest business for unfair labor practices. It’s only 7:33 AM and I’m about halfway there already.

Is it possible to listen to this band and NOT become, if only for a few moments, thoroughly blue collar? I don’t think so.

Makes me want to Drink & Fight.

If it was up to me, I’d let you; but the boys have a temper, and they’ve been drinking all day.

Gawd yes! I’m not a big drinker or fighter, and generally look down my considerable nose at my leprechaun-stomping brothers (for being uncouth, and also because I’m culturally English). But man, they rile me. I’m ready to march on DC with a baseball bat and it’s still only morning.

This one is perfect for today of course: Dropkick Murphys - "The Season's Upon Us" (Video) - YouTube

Just reading this makes me want to ship up to Boston.

At least jump ahead briefly to the very Murphys Christmas song before you burn out. Other than that notable exception I fully endorse this plan.

The thing I like about DKM is they don’t give two shits about playing into stereotypes. Their videos make me smile.

I kind of feel like Dropkick Murphys are one of those bands like The Pogues or Black 47 I only listen to in March. Or if I’m going to Boston.

I don’t recall anything about them and I couldn’t name a single song (or even know it’s them if I heard them), but I’m nearly positive I saw them in concert opening for The Mighty Mighty Bosstones back in the 90’s when my life revolved around ska.

Without the Pogues there would be no Dropkick Murphys. The latter are quite derivative of the former.
