The headline says it all. Can someone in the U.S. legally buy drugs from Canada online? And is it safe to do so?
If the answers to both questions are “yes”, can anyone recommend a reputable site to buy them from?

No, importing drugs from Canada is illegal, and they may very well be confiscated. However, FDA does not make a practice of prosecution, and amounts under a three-month supply routinely pass unchallenged.
Legitimate Canadian pharmacies are perfectly safe to buy from; Canadian drug regulations are as good as our own, and most of their drugs are imported from the U.S. anyway. Look for the seal of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association, and confirm the pharmacy on CIPA’s website.
The FDA may not care, but Customs and the DEA do. I learned this the hard way. Don’t do it.
