They seem to go together.
Why do almost all famous band members do drugs?
Do they think its cool?
Does it make them Look cool?
Can you think of any great rock and roller who doesn’t(didn’t) take drugs? Besides Frank Zappa.

A few interrelated explanations:

  1. Especially in the 60’s and 70’s, drugs were/are thought to help the creative/artistic process;

  2. Image. Helps to be a rebel if you are actually breaking some laws.

  3. You’re 22, have millions, and have a job that has very little responsibility and lots of free time. Why not do drugs?

  4. Drugs are fun. That’s what we keep trying to hide from the kiddies.

Ted Nugent comes to mind as a Rocker who didn’t do drugs OR drink. he did like the women though. there are a number of bands that drink but have stayed away from the drugs, Iron Maiden is one that comes to mind. I’m sure there are plenty of others too.
