I had occasion to visit my local liquor outlet this afternoon as I was deplete of refreshment, so to speak.
After finding my favourite bottle of plonk, I noticed that they had a ‘special’ happening with a 6-box of Merlot Cleanskins for just $18. At that price, who could refuse??
So I tendered my card at the register, and was told to ‘Hang on a moment, you get some other goodies too’…
She came back with:
1: A winerack to store a* dozen* bottles in
2: A chiller-bucket (obviously not for the merlot, but anyway…)
3: Two wine glasses…in a pack, each holding 500ml!!
How many wine glasses hold nearly a pint of booze?? Would I get away with telling the officer that pulls me up on a suspected DUI charge, "But, I only had two glasses, sir, I can’t possibly be over the limit!
Like, it was really sweet that I got all those gifts AND the wine for a mere $18…buggered if I can figure out why, except they want all their customers to become raging alcoholics.
Sounds like a more extreme version of the dentists who give their kid patients candy after the visit for “being good” - more like encouraging repeat and greater business. Nice haul of stuff you got, but wow.
Bowl-shaped, rather than simply an enlarged and strengthened wine-glass, right? I’ve used those sort of glasses. You’re not supposed to fill them. They’re that large to enhance - via larger surface area - and capture the bouquet of the wine.
Cleanskins are a no-name wine, IOW, you are given information about what region the wine comes from, but no particular company or other labelling. Many cleanskins are really terrific drops, and come from little vineyards…others are complete crap, but you won’t know until you open the first bottle.
I love cleanskins. We have First Choice Liquor Superstore here in Toowong next to the Regatta pub. You can buy singles of cleanskins then, if it turns out to be decent, you can buy a case. Here in Queensland the cleanskins will have the name of the winery and the grape variety but no other information on the label- thus the skin (label) is relatively clean.
