Texas sting
I understand the intent, but… :dubious:
I saw that wire story in the paper, and the title said “Texas Arrests Drinkers in Bars,” which sounded even sillier, but when they explain it, it makes a little more sense. Still, you’d think someone should have to do something bad (besides being drunk) before they get arrested inside some place.
A similar, celebral / high-brow(?) discussion, astro’s Texas police sweep bars & arrest intoxicated patrons in hotel bars- Isn’t this wrong?
There’s another thread as well, but I can’t find it. Wonder if they anticpated the whole “making the national news and looking like a bunch of pricks” angle?
I have a friend who was with the guy they selected out of that particular bar to roust. She and the rest of their group protested – he wasn’t driving, she was the designated driver. She somehow managed to persuade the cops that she’d take him home right there and then, and thus kept him from being arrested. It was apparently as senseless as you could imagine.
Frankly, while preventing drunk driving is a good thing, does arresting people who don’t have a car with them, are either taking a cab or getting a ride with a sober person or staying in the hotel upstairs from the bar, really do anything to solve the problem?
