I live a block from the school where the nuns work, and the Wife and I go to all of their fundraisers. We speak when they are walking by to and from school. They compliment me on my garden.
I am not Catholic, nor did I personally know the nuns (although I recognize one of them in news photos), but they have always been so nice, make such tasty goodies, and believe it or not, they are hilarious! The old stereotype of the evil, ruler-wielding teacher definitely does not apply to this group! 
Sad.
When I was a kid we thought nuns were immortal. We had both the ruler-wielding Nazi nuns and the nice ones. Unfortunately, there weren’t enough of the latter.
The survivors should form a group Nuns Against Drunk Driving.*

What a shame.
Nuns can be cool. I sat next to a 24 year old nun in full metal nun gear (the full-length, old time habits like in the Sound of Music) on a flight once and she was a hoot. She kept trying to get me to join the convent but in a funny way. She was really interesting to talk to and didn’t mind me drinking throughout the flight and laughed when I told her the no sex thing was kind of a deal breaker for me.
Driver has a Hispanic name --wonder if he’s Catholic? Extra heaping of guilt there!
With three DUIs under his belt I doubt he has much of a sense of responsibility.

I saw this on the morning news (Today show maybe, can’t remember.) I thought they were working a story line that the guy is illegal. Something like “Should illegal aliens be killing our nuns?” Am I getting stories mixed up?
For some reason, it seems funnier to me if he was illegal. Like, because he’s illegal, he shouldn’t be killing nuns. Not because he was drunk, but because he was illegal.
What difference does it make that the victim was a nun? Shouldn’t we be equally outraged if the victim was an accountant?
Sunday a drunk driver killed a man and his three grown sons with families of their own. I think that’s more tragic. Not that the nun’s life was any less important or valuable, the point is people are killed by drunk drivers all the time, I just don’t understand why the victim’s vocation makes this incident more noteworthy. The tragedy is it shouldn’t happen to anyone, but it does.
FTR this story is on the front page of the Washington Post today, and he is in fact in this country illegally.
Well, that sure makes all those deaths by drunk U.S. citizen drivers seem a lot less tragic.

Well, one does have to wonder how he managed to get a license, get 3 DUIs and have his license revoked all while in the country illegally and yet still be driving around free.
“Man kills woman” isn’t exciting enough.
Sure, it’s nothing personal. Just noting that neither the occupation of the victim nor immigration status of the offender makes this any less tragic. The real tragedy, as Wile E noted, is that we can’t prevent this from happening in the first place. Drunk drivers are douchebags.
I guess. Reminds me of a headline I saw recently in our local paper about a carful of youth who died in car crash that read something to the effect of “Local Marine and 3 Others Die in Wreck”. Although there was nothing military related about the car wreck, it seemed important to the paper to mention in the headline that one of the victims was a Marine. They didn’t even mention anything about the “Other” three victims other than the fact that they died.
I wonder that every time I hear of yet another repeat DUI offender causing yet another death. Why don’t we just deport them all the first time they decide to drive drunk?
Well, it was mundane & pointless, so it ended up here. It was more of me wanting to be able to say something about the ladies who make the best blondies I’ve ever tasted.
Although this does beg the question: How the heck does someone who isn’t supposed to be in the country get 3 DUI’s? I’m all about immigration, but I would think the first two might have been a clue that he wasn’t our kind of citizen…
Yeah, and maybe the accountant had made more redemptions that the nun !
