What’s the deal with used DSS receivers without cards. What do cards do and where do you get one?
We want to keep it legal here. It’s a second receiver on a dual LNBF.
Thanks
The cards authorize you to receive the signal. There are some who would bypass this feature by altering existing cards. These people are called thieves. You may be able to get a replacement card from the receiver’s manufacturer. Sometimes, though, the card and receiver are “mated” meaning you can’t use one without the other. At least that’s the way my Dish Network system is supposed to work.
So if it’s an EPROM, you can’t stick any old card in and call up Dish network to authorize it?
They are actually a form of Smart Card. If the receiver you have still has it’s card, you may be able to have it activated. You’d have to call Dish to be sure. You’ll have to have the serial number of the receiver when you call. The person you bought it from should have had it deactivated. I had to do this when my secondary receiver went beserk a couple of years ago. I tossed the receiver in the closet, smart card still inside.
Dammit, that’s like asking directions.
Thanks!
