I doubt that Tuba would have made the request without him asking for her to do so. Do I get another kewpie?
I’ll give you 10 to 1 against your supposition.
You know, he wants it, he asks, he gets it.
But he’s got to ask.
Well, this certainly got some folks a lot of attention.
What makes you so sure? It was this post that made me think that. If you promise me that you didn’t have any inside knowledge when you made that wager, I’ll put up $5. If you weren’t serious about the wager, I won’t hold you to it.
I really don’t like the idea of an Admin making an unsolicited request on someone else’s behalf. I would be seriously pissed off if I was DSYoung in this situation. I would also be pissed if I was the one who paid for his registration and he never wanted it in the first place and then never ended up using it. (I have paid for someone’s subscription before in case someone was going to ask.)
I have to agree with hajario. Unless he specifically asked Tuba to make the request, which seems unlikely because her post on it came so quickly after her last noting that he had lapsed. Also, there is a specific thread for that she could have bumped, ISTM.
What if he wanted to take a break and was just quietly letting his membership lapse for a while as he took care of some other things? It’s nice to be wanted ,sure, but silenus just cheerfully dropped off some internet crack off for him, if that’s the case.
Hey, I disagree with about 50% of what DSYoungEsq posts. We have to keep people like that around! Just call me the local pusher…
I can see where you’re coming from, honestly. My view is this - at some point you have to just accept that folks are captains of their own ships of fate. If DSYoung wants to post after having been renewed he will, and if people want to pay for others to post they will, and so long as there’s no coercion or whatever, it doesn’t really matter much, does it? I don’t see that TubaDiva or silenus did anything untoward; on the contrary, so long as we assume that folks are in fact able to refrain from posting with a paid account if they don’t want to, then no harm is done. And, if it really was a money/logistic matter, then I can’t say that TubaDiva and silenus did anything but good.
Really, the only person who can tell us what’s up is someone who now has the ability to do so, and either will or won’t, as they see fit.
I get jokes!
My thanks, gracious sir.
I shall return the favor, or spread it around to another in need, as you desire, as soon as it becomes possible.
For those who were wondering, my membership did lapse, I didn’t realize that the email that arrived on the 6th was giving me only 3 days of notice, not 30 or so, so I didn’t even bother to read it ( ), and the weekend was filled with the sort of credit card cash flow issues one wishes never happen in life. This teaches me to be ahead of the game; I had to sit and stew all weekend while watching perfectly good threads go unmolested by me.
I will not comment on what Tuba, or any other moderator, did or did not know about my situation, as that is private, and I don’t publicize private communications. However, Tuba is a friend of mine. So even IF she posted without any communication from me on the issue, rest assured I would hardly be upset by what she did, knowing it was done with my best interests in her heart.
Honestly, folks, the tizzy some of you are willing to work yourselves into!
On the plus side, at least I will know that my absence is noted around here. :o
Oh, and silenus, only 50%? I will have to pay more attention and see if I can up that number for you…
Not this time.
I had no correspondence with DSYoung. But I did note that his subscription had expired and enough people were missing him already that it seemed logical to mention it.
If I hurt anyone’s feelings by what I did in this thread, I do apologize; I wouldn’t do that for the world if I could keep from it.
I liked the old TubaDiva better.
You can’t win fer losing around here.
Not almost up. I went down to the wire this time, because of the credit card bug, and I never got Guested. As far as I can tell, this is implemented correctly, not switching to Guest until a subscription actually runs out.
