We’ve had some requests for a “subscription help” thread here in ATMB – as we’ve had before this is a place where people could offer to help Dopers having various problems/difficulties with the subscription process, sponsor other members, ask for assistance, etc.
So here 'tis.

How do I know when I need to renew my subscription? Thanks!
Click User CP. In the column on the far left there is a link for “List Subscriptions.” Click it.
Then, when that one comes up empty, click the one that says “Paid subscriptions.” 
Ok. Do that then. 
I think sponsoring a guest’s membership is a great idea. Can I run a contest where contestants write a one to two page essay on why they should be deserving of an SDMB membership? I would then purchase a one-year subscription to the boards to whoever I deem the winner.

My subscription is about to run out in a couple days but I’m unsure of one thing. If I don’t re-up, I get changed to Guest, yes? Now does that mean that I can no longer use the Search function?
Search is functional for Guests.
Can you count me in for paying for a Charter member to retain their status if one needs the help (or whatever I pay for).

I want buy a gift subscription for a friend, and I have done it before, but that was a long time ago.
My own doesn’t run out till May, so I don’t want PayPal to think I am re-upping now, and there’s nothing in the order section for a comment, so can I just e-mail the details and card # to Jerry, or how can I do this?

If your friend is already registered to the board you can put in their member # and process the transaction for them.
See where your number is “11672?” Replace that # with your friend’s number.
If your friend is not yet registered on the board you’ll need them to get registered and then you can do it for them.
Sorry, TD, but I don’t see my member number. And yes, the friend is already registered.

You’re right – with this upgrade the situation is different now, the subscription page is totally different and not as transparent as it was before.
I’m going to have to take this to Jerry and Ed and see what we can do about this. Sorry.
