We’ve had some requests for a “subscription help” thread here in ATMB – as we’ve had before this is a place where people could offer to help Dopers having various problems/difficulties with the subscription process, sponsor other members, ask for assistance, etc.
So here 'tis.
Dopers helping Dopers is always a very cool thing to see.
When this board was strictly pay-to-post, assisting indigent Dopers in retaining posting privileges made sense. But since one can once again post freely at the Dope without being a member, and the only reason to pay for membership is for extra perks, I’m kinda perplexed at why people would help pay others’ membership anymore.
Oh, I dunno. It’s nice not having to fool with the ads and post a photo, some of the little things. Having your power shut off or losing your home, major things like that suck, but it’s often the little niggling things of penury that add up and drive you out of your gourd.
Personally, I don’t “fool” with the ads. I just ignore them with basically no effort. I guess they slow down the page load once in a while but I’m not sure how noble I’d feel paying $15 so some guy gets a 2 second quicker download.
Thank You! The generosity of people on the message board is awesome. Besides allowing me to join in the fun, it’s so good to be reminded that people in general can still be COOL.
SDMB Community: I.O.U. a Membership and a Custom Title Subscription.
I have no real reason for needing to continue my Charter Membership other than vanity. I like the title and I like being able to see my post count. It kind of bums me out that I won’t be able to continue it for lack of access to pay-pal or a credit card. I’d be willing to trade a small care package of random stuff for someone covering my membership fee. Any takers?
Awesome! Thanks! PM me an address to send stuff to and any strong likes or dislikes. I might completely ignore your likes and dislikes, but if I can accommodate, I will.
Karma? Wanting to contribute more $$$ to the board more than they do with their own fees? I dunno. It may not be as useful as it once was, but it’s still hella nice on their part to do.
This is a stupid question from a Charter Member…but if I re-subscribe today, 2 months before my subscription runs out, do I still have 14 months left (May 2011) or only 12 (March 2011)?
Your resubscription ADDS to your time – you lose nothing. In this case you would have 14 months left.
It’s always to your benefit to resubscribe as soon as you are able to/thinks upon it. The system does not automatically resubscribe you so if you do it when you’ve got it fresh on your mind you’re more likely to get that little chore out of the way and you can move forward knowing you’re in good standing.
I suppose I have no where else to post this that it would be topical- but muchas gracias to whoever upped my subscription for me. I didn’t even ask, but it is certainly appreciated!
