Thanks for the reminder. I always keep an extra year on mine (so up to 2019 now) to avoid accidentally falling off the wagon.

We used to only send out one e-mail. Some folks complained that they didn’t see the e-mail. Maybe they changed it in response to that.

Just FYI: when this subject has come up in the past, some people have said they don’t subscribe because they don’t have (and don’t want) PayPal. When you go to the “Paid Subscriptions” link on your User Profile page and choose your length of subscription, you will indeed get a PayPal link. But if you click it, you will have the option to bypass PayPal and simply enter a credit card number and be charged directly.

In conclusion, you can subscribe to the SDMB without using PayPal.

Thanks for the reminder Johnny. I went ahead and re-upped for another two years. I was good through the middle of June, but figured I’d better get it taken care of now, before I forgot. (For some reason I don’t always get the reminder emails, which is why my membership lapsed last time around.)

Something weird. I just got an email to my email address of record for the Dope telling me that my subscription was going to expire on May 17 of this year. I know I renewed it for two years on May 8, because I posted a comment in this thread just after I renewed.

When I followed the link in the email, it took me to the User Control Panel, and sure enough, it said that my subscription was going to expire on May 17. I clicked into some other threads and they were not updated as of today; they were only current as of a month ago. :confused:

Then I went to my bookmarks and accessed the board the way I normally do, went to the User Control Panel, and it showed that my subscription had indeed been renewed until May of 2019. Current threads were current.

The return address on the “please renew” email was webmaster@straightdope.com, which is correct. I’m confused.

I’m going to post this and then also send a mod note containing the text of the email. Very strange.

That’s weird. I’ve forwarded everything to our admins. Hopefully they can sort it out.

I’m glad I saw this thread. As far as I can tell, I never got the reminder email thread. I’ve upped for another 4 years now.

If you click through it’s set up to look like the SDMB only you’re not logged in. Don’t try to log in!
