Grrrrrrrr. Stupid fucking guest account! I swear I renewed my charter membership. I have the SDMB select payment page and paypal in my browser history on the 17th, but I never received an email confirming the payment and never followed up and I have no fucking paper trail. Now I have these stupid ads all over my fucking browser and guest underneath my name. Stupid fucking goat felching asshole jerkface mother fucker bastard!
Grrrrrrr.
You probably didn’t click confirm on the paypal page.
Heh, and I just resubscribed, so now I can look down my nose at you guest types.
Where is the monocled guy smiley?
Here’s Guy Smiley. Sorry, no monocle.
I’ve moved this from The BBQ Pit to About This Message Board. I’ll see if there’s any way we can help.
If you truly want to rant–and don’t want help–I’ll be glad to move this thread to MPSIMS for you. Just let me know.

Ranting is fun and felt good, but I would prefer to keep my charter membership. Can you help?
The money ($7 vs. $14, meh) is not really important to me.
Personally, I can’t. But I’ve asked for help from the administrators.
Please PM me and we’ll sort this out.

Did you use the “pay by bank account” option in PayPal?
PayPal holds these transactions for 5-10 business days.
These transactions don’t show up on this side until PayPal processes them, there’s always a delay. I wish they were upfront about how these payments are always delayed.
Anyone who uses this option needs to do so as far in advance as possible of their expiration date – and it would also be useful if they sent us an email so we could track the payment.
If this is not the case, then something else is going on. I’ll consult with Xash to see what’s happening.
[nelson]HAH-hah[/nelson]: so sayeth Chefguy, who properly renewed a few days ago, much to the chagrin of the mods, who, I am sure, hotly debated even sending me the email. “Fuck it, he’ll still post, so we might as well get the $15.”
So let me get this straight? 3 days ago, I’m a charter member. They send me an email that I don’t see until today. I can pay 30 bucks to be a charter member again, but if I would have paid 3 days ago it would cost me 7 bucks. Am I getting this straight?
Do you consider that expiration email to be timely? I personally think that is BS.
I don’t see how it’s the duty of the SDMB to remind you to re-up on time, seriously. I’m actually paid up until May 2012.
Yep
this.
I keep mine at least one year out.
I am confused by this renewal as well. I can renew my charter membership for 7.48, according to my email, but when I follow the directions on the email, under PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS, I find that my “board membership” doesn’t expire until 6/17, but it is 14.95 a year. I suspect some malfeasance. Wassup?
I have extended you a bit so you can resubscribe.
In all fairness there have been announcements about Charter Member resubscription in all the forums and we have been talking about this for quite a while.
Malfeasance?
I do not see how this applies.
The Charter Member resubscription alert email went out in a large-spectrum blast to people who had current subscriptions about to expire and people who had expired subscriptions. Because we were in somewhat of a hurry and wanted to hit as many Charter Members as we could it was possible that people who were not Charter Members or had expired regular Member subscriptions received this email.
That is what happened in this case – according to the records you have never been a Charter Member.
You may resubscribe at the regular Member rate at any time.
Now it is possible that some error has crept in – anything’s possible – and if you have anything that you can send me that shows that you were once a Charter Member we can talk about adjusting as necessary. If you have anything like that – an email, a credit card statement, etc. – please talk to me about this off the public board. Send me a PM or an email, please.
I got that email asking me to re-up my Charter Membership. And I thought to myself that as I have been a Mod for a day, there should be absolutely no reason not to be a Charter Member. A bit of a come down after being a Mod, but I’m not proud; if I have to sink to being a Charter Member, so be it.
Then I checked the date…April 1st is long gone. Ah well.
Note, in fact, that the 30 bucks is for a 2 year subscription. So it would have cost you $15 if you paid on time.
Think of the other $15 as a late renewal charge.
Probably not, but it’s up to you to remember and renew well in advance.
I got an email to renew even though my subscription was good until 2011. I renewed anyway, but I was surprised to get that email.
