Now that HDTV has become DTV I was wondering if you can pick up anything on a regular TV. I was flicking thru channels I am picking up some signal though not anything I can make out. But lately in Chgo we’ve had a bunch of Low Power TV stations sign on so I don’t know what I’m getting.
IIRC, the gov’t mandated that when all stations start transmitting in HDTV, they must also transmit the same signal in “regular” TV for X number of years. After that, you’ll have to have an HDTV set or some sort of adapter box.
I imagine seeing the digital signal on an analog TV would be akin to hearing a data CD on an audio player; in short, nothing but white noise.
I know that the FCC assigns numeric channels similar to those as analog, but does DTV operate at the same frequencies as NTSC?

Some people answered this before but there should be an adapter out so you can see htv on your old tv.
Well I am cleary seeing something but it isn’t quite a picture. That’s why I was wondering if the distortion could be a DTV simulcast of a TV station
Well mark, call the station & ask them.
