Dubbed movies on Comedy Central?

Years ago (I’m talking about 20, if not more) there was a series of old Hans-Christian-Anderson-type of movies that were dubbed with a completely different dialogue. I believe it was on Comedy Central, but don’t quote me on that. At any rate, these usually nice, plain movies had the most hilarious dialogue. Does anyone know what company did this? Is it available on tape? I don’t know if it was on Comedy Central, or at least those guys were no help whatsoever.

I recall this program as well. It was on one of the “major” cable channels (e.g. Showtime, HBO), back in the 1980s heyday of cable comedy, when Super Dave ruled the “airwaves” (or cable lines).

The program consisted of three or four comedians who would improv dialogue over old movies. IIRC, they actually sat in the front of a movie theatre w/ hand held mikes and a live audience behind them. Does this sound like the show yr thinking of?

(Comedy Central didn’t exist back then, but you may be confusing this program with one of the recurring rounds on “Whose Line is it Anyway,” in which the featured comedians improv dialogue over a much briefer snippet of movie footage.)

Unfortuately, I can’t think of the name of the show, but maybe this will help jog the memories of other Dopers.

Ma-ma-ma-ma Mad Movies!

I used to love that show as a kid.

Jet City Improv in Seattle does it every month. Usually with Sci-fi films.

Yep, Mad Movies with the LA Connection. The Connection was an improv group. I saw one ep where they took a Shirley Temple movie (where she looks for her father) and turned it into a movie where she was being controlled by her evil doll.

I may as well be the first to mention that Woody Allen did this kind of same sort of thing with an actual theatrical release: What’s Up, Tiger Lily?

THANKS GUYS! Now it’s time to check out ebay…

“No bullets? No bullets? Well, if those of you in the audience who truly believe in faries clap their hands, then my gun will be magically filled with bullets.”
“I don’t believe in faries.”
“Then don’t clap, ya idiot!”

“Saracen pig!!!”

“Spartan dog!!!”
