Back in the early 80’s or so, there was a show on PBS, I think, of all places, where they would take old movies, edit them down into about 20 minute shorts and then redub the thing with funny dialog. I’m pretty sure it was called Mad Movies. Anyone know where I can get my hands on some of those?
While I’m at it, someone set me up with those one minute Monkeyed Movies from TBS that used to air during Nitro! Braveheart with chimps! C’mon! “Better make with the lightnin’ bolts, Willie!”
Ma-ma-ma-mad Mooooovies!
I never saw it on PBS. It showed on Nickelodeon late night (PRE-Nick at Nick as I remember).
I watched it alot but I only remember them doing a Ronald Reagan Civil War movie.
Jet City Improv in Seattle WA does an improvised version of it called Twisted Flicks.
Ahhh, you kids today!
They hd a similar thing back in the late 1950s-early 1960s Fractured Flickers was done by Jay Ward and Bill Scott, the guy who gave us Rocky and Bullwinkle. http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0056756/
That’s the first one that came to my mind. My favorite line was when she’s really shining her shoe, but you can’t see her foot and she says, “There, I’ve finished saying off my foot, is there anythign else I can to satisfy your heathen blood thirst.” Of course, it was done in this sweet Shirley Templeesque voice.
I also liked in a different one where these two guys are walking through a bar full of pirates and you hear in the background “Aaarg” “Aarg”. One guy says something and the other guy says, “I can’t hear you, too many people going Aaarg”
There was also a show on FX a few years ago that took low grade MST3K-type movies, edited them down to about seven minutes and changed the plot of movie accordingly.
Come on everybody we’re headed in a new direction,
we’re going downtown with the LA Connection, to see the…
Around here (Boston) it was in syndication in the mid-1980’s.
Yes, that was funny as Hell. Perhaps my favorite was “The Stranger”.
“Yeah the last time I saw that … I had hair”
'We used to have a newstand, but the reflection from my head set it on fire".
Edward G Robinson gets knocked on the head and in a great Edward G impersonation he says “Ouch … see?”
“Hey we’ve got a sale on ants.”
If you didn’t see that one, then you will probably wonder what the Hell I’m talking about.
