Those who were at the Dublin Dopefest on Friday will get the reference :wink:

Time: 7.55pm, 11th August 2000
Place: O’Connell Street, Dublin, Ireland, 53° 22’ N, 6° 21’ W
I arrived at the prearranged meeting point, with no sign from my contact. I gave the signal twice, which was to be the sound of a baby ox eating twinkies…
no, wait, that was Saturday night… :wink:

I got to Cleary’s, where we had planned to meet at about 7.55. I was stopped by a frenchman who was looking for Directions to “ze Hard Rock Cafe”, and in my extreme pigeon french, Directed him as best I could to somewhere similar. :wink:

As I was giving directions, Yojimbo, like the shopkeeper from Mr. Benn, appeared “as if from magic”. I gave him one of the buttons that Baglady had made (they rock!!). and we where talking for a while, when D Marie appeared with her brother Charlie.
We made our introductions, and waited for a lurker who mailed me to say he would be there, but by 8.15 he hadnt arrived, so we went to meet Ruadh. On the way we discussed the Cult following of Oprah Winfrey, Dr, Seuss, and travel details of Dublin and Galway.
We met up with Ruadh, exchanged introductions and were shortly off to O’Neill’s to commence intellegent discussion (read: drinking) and general merriment.

Yojimbo got the first round in, and after a Toast to Wally, the discussion included (amongst manny, manny topics): Litigation, Japanese Crabs, Posters who you would like to meet, Post counts and their importance, people who we had gotten addicted to the SDMB, SD flirt threads,
the picture pages,The great Irish tradition of teaching chindren the leagalized violence of hurling, the October gathering, and the Co$.
We were joined by a lurking friend of Yojimbo, who really should be posting, (hint. Post goddamn you!!).

After a good few more drinks, last orders had came and went and we decamped to the Lurkers apartment, where we drank Tiger beer, and discussed Dermot Morgan, The Eurovision, The Violent Femmes, name changes et al.

Im sure I’m missing a hell of a lot, so if the attendee’s can remember, please remind me!
I had a total blast. It was really great to see Ruadh and Yojimbo again, (apparently I look like the prince of darkness in photos), and great to meet D marie, and Charlie. (btw, guys d marie is a total cutie!)

Time to start planning for the next meeting!!!

It was a good night alright . John or should I say patio :wink: for some reason does look like the prince of darkness in the pics ( now if we could get our collective arses together we’d be able to share this with everyone else ) .

re: The lurker Mick , this would be a good place to place that 1st post and then make your way to GQ and GD never to be seen on the social side of the board again.

It was really good to meet D Marie and Charlie. Hope they enjoy the rest of their stay .

Really looking forward to Oct. when Coldie , Tater et al come over.

Sounds like you had a great time, I can’t wait until we come over. Hubby wants to know if we can have the meeting at the Guiness Brewery. Oh, and he’s one of those Americans who thinks he’s Irish. Please humor him. If you tell him his accent sounds authentic, I’ll buy you a pint.

Micilin, it’s good to have you on board. Will you be at the October meeting? Smilies are easy to make; at the top of the board there is a link that says Smilies are on, click on that and there is a chart that explains them. :slight_smile:

Nice one John . You have suceeded in getting him to post in the space of one night out and 1 post. I’ve being trying for at least a month now . There’s this girl I really like and would like to f… well I’m sure you can work the rest out . I’ll have to get you around the next time she’s around .

For the first time in 16years I’ll be more technically knowledgeable than micilin , well at least for about 10mins anyway .

I’m glad you’re coming, micilin. This is going to be the best DubDope ever. I think we’re flying in from all corners of the globe. I get to represent USA, Germany and Asia, woo hoo!

And we need to all get together in Amsterdam before Coldfire moves and we’re out of a free place to stay. :wink:

I have made it home safely and soundly and with a minimum of jet lag. I want to thank the exceedingly hospitable and generous JohnLarrigan, yojimbo and ruadh for making us welcome and buying all those rounds.

We had a good time in Ireland even though we were traveling with my cousin, “Captain Guidebook,” aka “Magellan” (for the many times he got us lost). We saw most of Galway and surrounds and Dublin. The Dublin Dopers gathering, though, was certainly the highlight of the trip. I can’t wait to see the pictures. John doesn’t look anything like the prince of darkness as far as I could see :wink: and his minutes summarized the gathering nicely.

Wish we could make it back in October!
