Duke Nukem Forever is DONE bitches!

Oh, you’re one of THEM, are you?

Man, if he’d invested that $10 in stocks back in the 90’s, he’d have…well, OK, maybe about $20, less the broker fee, so about $10.

It should amount to a common-law contract. They tookt he money and promised a game in such time as it came out. Since I think the only places to go udner would either be private, single-owner entities or partnerships (corporations changed names and merged but didn’t go away), you could probably sue if they didn’t.

However, they may have some mileage out of demanding your ticket. I don’t know if they can demand that, and if they threw away their records, they mgiht be in serious, serious shit. It would be awesome to see Gamestop take a billion dollar loss on a flat legal requirement of having enough Duke Nukem copies to please everyone on day one, and having to take 10$ off the top for everyone, too.

GameStop is more or less the only game store still standing from those days that took pre-orders (aside from local indie shops). And why wouldn’t they honor the receipts?

It’s the only corporate entity, I mean. Your local game shop almost certainly wasn’t - which means the proprietor owes personal debts, not company debts. You can hold him personal liabel for the game, unless he went into bankruptcy.

Gamestop presumably would honor it, but if they lost the records… they might have no way of knowing. who took out pre-orders.

I can’t say I like the voice. It doesn’t sound like the voice of a man whose ego is matched only by his capacity for violence.

I think all of us, everywhere, need to play this game while listening to Chinese Democracy at the same time.

It looks like the same guy who did the voice for Duke 3D also did the voice in DNF.

And anything that was missed by the titles you mentioned has been covered by Half-Life and Bioshock, so I agree… there’s pretty much no way it’s going to be any more than “Good, but not great” IMHO.

Even if it did all that and provided everyone with a flying car, robot butler, and The Ultimate Answer To Life, The Universe, & Everything (with Bonus Ultimate Question) it’s still going to end up disappointing people, I suspect.

As to the actual release: I’ll believe it when I see it on the shelves. Given that EB is already promoting Shogun 2: Total War (Release date: March 15th 2011) and LA Noire (Due for release around the same time) but nothing on Duke Nukem Forever, I’m skeptical about an alleged May release date for DNF even if it is finished.

Is Gearbox actually buying the half-developed Duke game and finishing it, or did they just buy up the intellectual property when 3drealms went under and create their own game from scratch under the name?

The former.

The trailer doesn’t impress me. It’s a lot of the same old same old in grey, brown and muzzle flash; a game that should be SUPER colourful, more like Crysis than Quake, is yet another washed out FPS. And yeah, the voice is shitty.

It’d be amusing enough to give it a shot if it’s on for $9.99 on Steam, I guess.

Seems like a lot of people don’t understand that everyone knows the game looks terrible and dated; you’re supposed to play along anyway to make the world a more magical place, like Santa Claus or the McRib.

Why would you question an actual, publisher-supplied release date? And it’s not like it’s something vague like Q2 2011, it is an actual date.

Oh, and LA Noire is being released on May 17.

I think I just saw a Poland China fly past my window…

Over a decade of experience?

Actually, I think this one’s probably the real article, inasmuch as the game looks pretty cheap.

This is the first Duke Nukem Forever release date. We are officially in uncharted waters. And 3D Realms is no longer at the helm, there’s no reason not to believe.

If Randy Pitchford says the game is going to be out on May 3rd, the game is going to come out on May 3rd, regardless of whether it’s actually ready for release or not.

Penny Arcade.

Heh, I remember that PA strip. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s been something of a consensus that DNF is going to have to do no less than cure cancer in order to receive reasonable reviews at this point. And that is completely removed from the games own pros or cons. It’s reputation and infamy has completely surpassed any sense of bias at this point. It’s more important to release a title with the “DNF” name slapped on it than to worry about it’s quality.

This game could completely re-invent FPS standards and people are going to be chomping at the bit to headline a review with “not worth the wait.” Duke Nukem Forever could be the best shooter of all time but it’s doomed to be a footnote in the industry.
