I ended a relationship with a friend when we (my SO, me, friend, and her SO) went on vacation together. She (I’ll call her Joyce) freaked out when I, visiting Joyce and her partner in their hotel room next to ours, elected to sit in the chair next to their bed rather than next to her in the bed (they were lying in bed). She accused me of rejecting her, hating her, finding her disgusting, etc . . . they ended up leaving and going home because Joyce was so upset.
I had known for a while that Joyce had some mental health issues (bipolar/borderline, I think) but this episode was the nail in the coffin. She had been exhibiting some other stalking/“in love with you” behaviors for a few months and I had finally had enough.
I broke up with a girl because she was a bit too much of a feminist. She stated quite unambiguously that she believed that in the future women can create babies without men, and that men were only needed for that reason. She then went on to explain to me how men are biologically inferior than women.
I love strong and independent women, it is my weakness. Unfortunately, some of those that seem really strong have some strange and dangerous beliefs.
People who are actually strong don’t need to overcompensate with weirdly aggressive fantasies. Those people are, deep down, truly weak. So don’t worry about your attraction.
Edit to add that I, personally, don’t share the beliefs of Epimetheus’s former friend except on days when my husband and/or boss are being particular buttholes.
