Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon on DVD!

If you’re a fan of the old Dungeons & Dragons cartoon of the early 80s, then this is the news you’ve been waiting 20 years to hear. On 3/22/04, the complete show will be released on DVD! The catch is that it will only be released in the UK, so US viewers will need to import it and use region code hacks. If you want to place a pre-order now, just go to www.amazon.co.uk and search for it.

Well … at least it beats the Dungeons and Dragons movie…

Region code hacks? DAMN!

I can’t imagine a reason not to release it in the US, since the work’s already done…

I think this is one cartoon I will relegate to the fuzzy warm regions of my childhood memory. I’d rather not spoil that by coming face to face with how badly the show really sucked.

You mean other than making Tiamat, the deadliest, largest, most evil evil dragon in the multiverse, well nigh ubiquitous and not even a real threat to the protagonists?

I was thinking more along the lines of making the Dungeon Master not only a character in the series, but a friendly little disappearing Yoda clone who has seemingly limitless magical powers but never actually does anything with them.

But, also, Tiamat.

I wonder if they will include a copy of the final episode script. IIRC, the series was cancelled before they produced the final episode, but the original author has posted the script to his webpage.

I just thought it was annoying that every time the kids got back to (or were on the verge of getting back to) the amusement park, they would be guilted into returning to D&D land because Vengor was going to slaughter some villagers or whatnot.

Had I been in the group, I’d’ve said FUCK the villagers. If those villagers were unfortunate enough to live in a universe where big guys wearing skirts and hats with one asymmetrical horn could come along and slaughter them unless a bunch of adolescent conscripts got in the way, then it’s their problem. Let the little guy who went to the Mr. Roark School of Disappearing help the villagers. I’m done, gone, outta here.

That said, I thought the Tiamat episode was seriously cool.

Particularly when the kids said, “Fuck off with your Quest of the Week, Dungeon Master! You want us to get rid of Venger, you tell us how to find Tiamat. Now, you little putz!”

Just had to bump this thread to share this gem. Finally, someone found a use for that goddamn unicorn!

Just wanted to tell people to stick around at that site and read the archives. Queen of Wands is an excellent webcomic.
