Duplicate Image Locater

I have finally moved all of my digital photographs to a single central repository.
Over the years I’ve managed to create duplicate copies off several of the images. They’re spread across different sub directories; and have different file names.

I see lots of options for software that is supposed to identify (and allow removal) of similar images.

What I’m looking for personal recommendations for free or inexpensive software that has worked well for my fellow dopers.

Any suggestions of software that you’ve used and liked or didn’t like?

Since I’m using Google’s Picasa software for my my organization; I’ve used their duplicate finder; but that leaves a lot to be desired. In other words, either it doesn’t work so well, or I’m not using it correctly.

I’ve used Duplicate Images Finder, DoubleKiller, and VisiPics. I think I ended up sticking with DoubleKiller. Try them all and see which you prefer.

I’ve used this for a number of years

It can choke if you give 100K images though.

I’ve always found it easy to do it by eye. Just do a search for all .JPG or whatever format you use. Than arrange the search by file size. If the images haven’t been modified then the true duplicates should be grouped together.

Of course this doesn’t work so well if you have thousands upon thousands to work with.
