As my nephew says, what the junk, Reds??? Guess they’ll have someone new to blame when they don’t even make it to the playoffs next year! G’bye, Dusty. You deserved better!!
He’s certainly not to blame for their playoff loss, but Dusty is a shitty manager, and the Reds would be better off saving their money on Brad Ausmus.
Hasn’t Dusty been fired from like ten teams by this point? It’s practically expected now.
And their AAA manager is Jim Riggleman, with plenty of experience being an average major league manager. The difference, of course, is that Riggleman is comfortable with both younger players, and managing developing pitching arms - both areas in which Dusty is routinely criticized.
Any speculation on where Baker’s going next? There’s an open position in Seattle.
I really don’t understand the love and respect for Dusty Baker. He’s never impressed me as an in-game strategist and he has a pretty long record of pitcher abuse.
Are you saying go with Ausmus instead or don’t spend money on Ausmus either?
I just think it was time for the Reds to move in another direction. They are going to have some painful player decisions coming up as well.
No, go with Ausmus. As a first year MLB manager, they’ll save some pocket change. I’m also hearing some rumblings about Sandy Alomar Jr. I say give a new guy a shot. And I love catchers as managers.
One of my favorite writers at Redleg Nation had this article a couple of days ago. I think it echos the feelings a lot of us had.
Not like he got much help from the owner down the stretch when everybody else was adding players.
Dusty to the Cubs? The Cubs are looking to redevelop the entire Wrigley area and a competitive team would help them get the $$$ they are looking for.
I listened to him all the time on the radio during his playing days here. Hilarious, intelligent, extremely likeable and he was a heckuva good game caller too. Haven’t kept up with him since he ‘retired’ but I saw nothing then that would disqualify him and am glad to see he’s under consideration.
You mean Dusty to the Cubs again? I’d only go for that if Steve Bartman agreed to be in the stands for every game!
I’d go for it, especially after having had Dusty.
I heard he’s planning on having lunch tomorrow with Marty Schottenheimer and Lovie Smith.
I thought this was going to be a cooking/baking thread… who names their kid Dusty Baker?
Do you need a spare toothpick to check your cake’s doneness? I have one…or many.
He’s managed for the Giants, Cubs, and Reds, so far as I know. He spent 10 seasons with the Giants, 4 with the Cubs, and 6 with the Reds, so I’m not sure where you’re getting that impression from.
“Dusty” is, unsurprisingly, a nickname. His name is Johnnie.
I realized what I did after I posted and that was combine Don Baylor and Dusty Baker into one mega-mediocre manager.
