Dvd to windows

I was wondering, is it possible to convert some of my dvd’s to windows playable (non-dvd drive)?
I have an extensive movie collection, which plays fine at my home computer (which has a dvd drive and windows xp), but I was wondering if I can transfer it to cd, in order to watch it on my laptop computer (it does not have a dvd drive).

How would I do this? Is there any software that I have to buy, or can I do it through windows xp media player (which I’m not terribly familar with)?

*BTW mods, if this is illegal, please lock the thread. I don’t think it is, because I legally purchased the dvd’s. Also, it’s legal to copy dvds to vhs (AFAIK), so I wouldn’t think that there would be a legal issue with dvd-cd.

You need to convert dvd to vcd. There are tons of instructions on the net on this (search for ‘dvd to vcd’) & you didn’t say if these are commercial dvds, so let’s just assume you made them yourself with your camcorder.
