My e address Orangecakes@yahoo.com is always filled with junk mail, so I don’t even want to check it anymore.
SO how will I know if a mod needs to e mail me or something?
I am going to get another e address (not yahoo!). Would that be an acceptable one for the board mods to have?
Go to user CP and click on edit profile. You can change your e-mail address there.
I have a hotmail account and I have reduced the amount of incoming spam by using MailWasher - it allows you to ‘bounce’ emails back to the sender without opening them. (Spammers are able to detect that you have opened a mail message - I won’t go into details as I don’t want to further popularise the practice).
Well, I agree that we don’t want to popularise that, but I have to ask - doesn’t this depend on your mail reader and mail server? It seems to me that if your e-mail reader does not send return-receipts, and doesn’t display HTML (which would generate an HTML access somewhere that could be detected), and your mail server doesn’t give permission to 3rd parties to check status, how else would they know? (Feel free to e-mail me using my profile if you have an answer that you don’t want to post here.)
Suffice it to say that most e-mail readers display HTML, including all the web ones.
Is there a way to close down an e-mail address if you’ve had enough with it as far as spam and such?
Better just to ignore it, than to close it down. Let the spammers keep wasting their time on a dead address.
