The lyrics I keep hearing are “And it hap-pens eve-ry time”, and something like “and so the story goes”. Maybe “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know - and so the story goes”.
I really suck at hearing lyrics.

Attempt 2) Jimmy Buffett- I Don't Know (Spicoli's theme) - YouTube - Jimmy Buffet’s “I Don’t Know”. This one has the title line repeated a fair amount, and was used in the soundtrack for ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ movie.
