Earliest use of song lyric?

Dear All,

It was with a sense of smugness that I answered a colleague’s query “What was the first time that anyone used the lyric ‘too fast to live - too young to die’?” with the reply “The StraightDopers will know!”

Just a quick caveat before you all google off -

I found these 3 with a quick search:

  1. “Your painted smile” by Bryan Ferry (1994):

  2. “Nothing to lose” by Gary Moore (1985):

  3. “James Dean” by The Eagles (1974)

Thanks in anticipation!

I know Malcolm Mclaren who used to manage the Sex Pistols, had a shop in the early to mid-70’s called Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die. They sold biker gear and early precursers to punk fasion. He later changed the shops name to Sex and began to sell bondage gear and kicked off the whole punk fashion thing.

Dear Iggy,

Thanks!

P.S. Your name sounds vaguely familiar…

Hey no problem. I hold all answers to life’s questions
