Here in Chicago, we should be breaking records again on Friday. Could be as much as -20 degrees, according to NPR. Spring will never come. I’m so depressed.
You’re doing fine.
Around here, we have a frog pond. It gets iced over during the winter, but almost dead on Lupercalia (13-15 Feb) all of a sudden we can hear the frogs mating in the pond. We call it ‘frog-fest’ around these parts and it is always a welcome reminder that Spring is actually coming. This has been a long and harsh Winter, and I am looking forward to Spring.
We seem to be having an early spring in the UK, after all our normal cold decided to holiday the other side of the pond. My neighbour’s calendula are still alive, despite being outside all winter, and now the snowdrops, crocus and daffodils are all out together; last year there was over a month gap!
I hope we don’t have a late, heavy frost, or we’ll lose a lot of blossom and subsequent fruit now.
I don’t know about you, but my winter has been regular subzero tempertures and constant snowstorms. Yeah, “warm and dry”, I wish.
The baseball players showed up last week and we are in the height of snowbird season. Definitely a sign of spring.
The annual pine tree orgy is picking up steam. Spring is just around the corner in south Georgia USA!
Pffft. I’m not sure you can have harbingers of spring if your winter equals a heavy frost and (except for this year) some rainy weather
The maple trees were running sap here last week, but with the latest influx of below freezing temperatures, the spigot has been turned off. Looks like we don’t break 32 degrees again until mid-next-week.
We don’t have spring in New Hampshire. It snows through April, then it’s muddy a few weeks and all the grass is dead still and trees bare, then it’s suddenly summer.
The witch hazel has started to bloom, and I saw a robin yesterday.
They’re predicting 6-10" of snow Monday.
Thank Og spring is here. It’s only -22°F at noon.
Hows that Spring weather coming?
Well, yeah.
It’s all relative…being sick of winter around here, for me, is “dammit…I’m sick of having to run the heat for an hour in the morning. And it gets darn chilly riding my motorcycle to work when it’s under 50 degrees!”
The low temps are now above 0F in Saint Paul.
Red winged blackbirds and mud. Both are starting to show up in my yard.
