Hey! The birds are singing! Spring has sprung!
Spring is here, spring is here, all is skittles and all is beer . . . .
We got birds tweeting and twirting, nests being built next to the front door, bats fluttering and squeaking in the chimney, and somewhere, tiny frogs are chirping.
I was hoping for about 8-12 weeks of more winter-I want to go skiing! man, What i would give for a 12’ snowfall, and 20 degree temperatures!
Blast your birds and frogs-I want blue shies, snow, and 209-degree temperatures!
Soon it will be hot and muggy-and i’ll dream about crisp winter days…and punging down power-covered slopes!
Will October ever come again?
Okay – “hot” compared to 209 degrees would be what, exactly?
Are the UPS guys/gals wearing shorts yet?
…or is that when summer begins?
I can tell that it’s spring because the temperatures have gone back up to the 80 degree mark already and the trees are busy pollinating all the cars in town. Joy.
I hate you.
:: from the land of snow that melts when it feels like it, which is not much, right now ::
He must mean 209 degrees Rankine.
Listening to birds singing was ruined for me when I realized that all you’re hearing is “I’m horny and single!” and “This is mine! Stay away!”.
Dagblammed woodpeckers are back, next thing you know those noisy LBB’s will be screaming their evil hearts out at 5:30AM, then evenings will be spent adjusting the sprinkler system and keeping the swamp-cooler running, followed by allergy filled weekends doing yardwork. But at least the temps will be too high to sleep comfortably.
I like thunderstorms, so that sometimes makes this half of the year bearable
It’s been gorgeous here in Chicago for a couple of days, but it’s all a nefarious tease. Friday is supposed to be down below freezing again. So mean.
I love how it’s supposed to be gorgeous weather for all of finals week, then freezing for spring break. Mother Nature has an awfully twisted sense of humor.
Noisy little buggers are at it all day
Tweet, tweet, chirp, bloody tweet
Did I mention my witch hazel is in bloom?
I’ve got a cardinal in my yard. Other bird calls are the Desiderata compared to this guy’s Hitler’s Nuremburg Rally Address of bird songs. It’s like the Michael Savage show in bird.
Which hazel?
Sunday I heard two competing bird calls of a bird that comes in spring, so that cinched it for me. I have brought these birds to branches within three feet of my head, by calling them in. It’s a teratorial or mating song, so they check you out. Their about 2 inches from head to tail. Ma say two sandhill cranes at the marsh on Saturday.
The daffodils are about two inches tall, and huge this year. I replanted hundreds two falls ago. This should be the first big pay off year. I trimmed shrubs on Sunday in shorts, so the spring fever is officialy on. I shoveled the deep snow down to a foot only on the iris beds today. No is when I need to clean up the grape vines and trim them. I can see what winter killed, and pull out vine pieces before the buds can be damage easily.
I didn’t know it ever bloomed in spring. Is it a specific variety or just confused? I have a few plants that were confused last year.
Miricle? Don’t read if you don’t want a slightly sad short miricle story.
One year in late summer, I had flowering crab that bloomed on one branch the day of a friends baby’s funeral. I took him the branch and told him. He didn’t quite get how freakish it was that one branch on the tree bloomed in late summer, until a few months later after some of the shock wore off.
Nope, this is when it blooms – the only thing earlier than it are the snowdrops – it even beats the crocuses.
