I’m still going to see it on opening night to judge for myself, as I imagine most of you will. Our local comic book shop will be at the theater handing out towels. How cool is that?
I propose that everyone brings a towel to the movie theater with them. It’ll be a national phenomenon.
Bring a towel!!!
(I am such a geek)
I did actually read the whole 4 pages. Based on the review, I think the movie will be almost nothing like the book and audio tapes that I love (too young to have heard the radio show in any other form).
However, I will still see the movie. I will approach it exactly as I approached the Harry Potter movies. I will forget that I’ve been reading the book every year for 15 years. I will forget that I quite often spent multiple days of school vacations listening to the audio tapes over and over. I will forget that I have spent many months falling asleep to the movie playing in my bedroom. I will pretend that I never heard of DA. I will forget that I wrote a book report on this book when I was in 7th grade (FTR, I got an F because my teacher thought I made the book up :wally ) It was this attitude that allowed me to thoroughly enjoy the HP movies - along with almost every Stephen King movie. I will look at this movie as having characters I have heard of before and nothing else.
Now for a question: I have never seen the TV series AFAIK, but I do have HHGTTG in movie form. It has no obvious breaks that you usually get when a TV show is turned into a movie. It was quite good. It included Milliways and B Ark, along with, if I recall correctly, the return to prehistoric Earth.
Is this the TV show in movie form or was there actually an earlier movie made?
Yeah, I think it is the TV series with the beginning and end credits removed (except for the first episode beginning and last episode end) and the whole series merged together. As it was made to UK non-commercial television, there are not the obvious break points for commercials, just one every half hour or so for episode breaks. I am positive that there was never an alternate movie version made, just the UK TV series and a pilot for a US TV version that didn’t work.
I think I have a VHS of the series done up in this way, but it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it and can’t remember. (Damn brain cells!) I’ll check tonight.
Alright, I took a break from studying for finals last night and went to see HHGTTG. I was really pleased w/ what they left in form the books and what they added in. Not a lot of plot to get in the way, which is fine, and one particular added bit made me laugh harder than anything else in the movie. I won’t spoil it for those haven’t seen the movie, but for those who have - it’s what happens when you have an idea. I believe I may have actually whooped, much to the consternation of my friends. I may see it again.
I must be growing up because at the very last second I left my towel in the car deliberately. I didn’t want to seem like one of ‘those people’.
