Earth's Finest Join Forces: Monty Python Beer!

I’d heard about the store from my brother-in-law. He doesn’t drink beer, but, knowing my passion for it, thought immediately of me when he stopped to get some gas one day. It’s just a medium-sized convenience store/ gas station. But when I walked inside… oh, my.

They claimed to have over a thousand varieties of beer & wine, and though I didn’t count every one, I think they were being conservative.

And the true wonder of this heaven hit me like a fish to the face when my bedazzled eyes lit upon a bottle labelled:

Monty Python’s Holy ΧΧail
[sub]“Tempered over burning witches.”[/sub]

How’d it taste? Well, I pretty much agree with these reviewers.

And the (empty) bottle has been thoroughly washed, to be set with my other Python memorabeel…memirabbilly… stuff.

The brewer’s homepage.

Wow, so you can get Holy Ale in America now? I’ve had it in the mother country. Pretty decent stuff, although it’s not going to make my top ten list of British beers.

BTW, is this store in the Triangle area, and if so, whereabouts?

I second that, Porpentine!

If you guys are finding this in Knightdale and not letting on to your friends and fellow Dopers, I’m gonna be verrrrrrrrrry upset!

Okay, here we go…

The main road that goes up behind the new Triangle Town Center Mall, Triangle Town Blvd, or some such… If you keep on it after it gets away from the mall, it magically changes its name to Fox Road. After about 2 miles, it comes to an end where it intersects with Highway 401/Louisburg Rd. There’s an Exxon station at that corner - you can turn in to it on the left just before the stop light. Walk inside the store and behold the glory.

Incidentally, part of what I love about the store is the number (and, of course, variety) of singles they sell (like the Holy Ale) - it’s not all 6-packs & cases.

Porpentine coming from Chapel Hell, take I-540 East all the way to the end (past the exit for US-1/Capital Blvd.). You’ll see signs pointing you to the mall, down an exit ramp and to the right. When you get to the intersection with Triangle Town Blvd. (first stoplight), turn left, away from the mall and you’ll be on Fox Road.

BTW, what IS on your list of top British beers?

Thanks for the directions! I’ll definitely check this place out.

As for the list … hmm, I remember liking one of the other beers from the same brewery better; I think it may have been the Black Sheep Ale. And Old Peculier is definitely on the list, as is Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild. I’ll have to check the travel journals for some of the others – it’s been a while.

Note to self: sell all shares of Watney’s Red Barrel.
