Just came here because someone upthread said Stephen Colbert addresses his audience at the top of his shows as “Ladies and Gentlemen.” I didn’t think he did, so I’ve been paying attention ever since (I watch his show every night or on dvr). He’s never said “Ladies and Gentlemen” in any show even once.

This may be a hijack at this point, but I was referenced, so I’ll respond but keep it brief. Since you missed him saying it @carrps , I’ll give you some links:

This is from 2 days ago. “Ladies and gentlemen” are literally the first words out of his mouth.
Here’s another from December, again right out of the gate.

Anyway, in doing this extensive and deep-diving research, it looks like he’s been trying more often to say “Welcome everyone” or “Welcome one and all” at the top of his monologues. Good for him, I say; I do the same thing. But he has not abandoned the ol’ L&G entirely, as I hope we can all now agree.

Since you did the research, I’ll accept your point. I hadn’t remembered it, which is why I looked for it, and I didn’t hear it in my admittedly short experiment. So, apparently he does occasionally say it still, just not very much any more. I agree – good thing.
