Eat My.....City!

I was noticing the variety of food that’s named after cities the other day and I started to make a mental list. I’ll share a few I came up with, but I know there are a lot more.

New York Strip Steak
Chicago Dog
Philly Cheese Steak
Vienna Sausages

What other cities are we invited to gorge ourselves on?

I know that there are even more foods named after nationalities, but lets keep it to cities for now.

Shark

Well, there is Maryland Fried Chicken but Maryland’s not a city.

Hamburgers
Frankfurters
Boston Clam Chowder

Boston Cream Pie
Boston Baked Beans

London Broil

Manhattan Clam Chowder

Montreal Smoked Meat (sometimes called Montreal-style)

Hmm, this is a real easy one for me. I’m from Flanders, an area in Belgium that since early Middle Ages was had city cultures. Each city was distinct from another, had different industries and folklore, different dialect, and, yes you’ve guessed it, different foods.

Every city in Flanders, Belgium, has its own speciality. Or two. Or three. Or four. Some more tasty then others, ofcourse.
Oh, even the beers are attached to the region where they are brewed and it usually shows in the name

Manhattan Clam Chowder (the red kind)
Riceroni “The San Francisco treat”
Zwolle Tamales (named after a small town in Louisiana)

Another one I though of:

Peking Duck

Well it’s named after a region but any Szchwan dish.
As a state there’s the California roll
The Sapporo beer comes from Sapporo japan
Singapore Fried Noodles
Chicago style pizza
New York Style Pizza
Kilkenny beer comes from Kilkenny Ireland (i forget if it’s a city or a suburb of Dublin).

Kansas City strip steak (same as the NY)

I often buy the Jerusalem Mix (cubes of steak, shwarma and fried onions) at my local pita place.

Old Milwaukee beer
Hamburgers
Frankfurters

Buffalo Wings

(btw growing up in MA, I never heard of Boston Clam Chowder. It’s New England clam chowder. Of course, even that is redundant. All real clam chowder is the NE kind, not that freaky red stuff from New York. And it’s pronounced chowdah, of cahss)

I’m sure I could find numerous things named after cities at the New Delhi on the corner.

Wieners
Wiener Schintzel
New York Cheesecake
Dijon mustard

Albany steamed hams

Denver omelettes

There’s a town in Maine called Freedom. I suppose there’s where the nifty new Freedom Fries come from.

Nanaimo bars. Basically they are layers chocolate, sugar, and butter in various forms and comibinations. Lotsa recipes on the internet.

St. Louis Cut ribs
