There are a couple of lizards camped out on our second floor window ledge, eating bees from a nearby tree. I assume the bees don’t die instantly, so how do the lizards manage to eat the bees without getting stung on the inside? Are they immune from the stings?
Are you sure they are 1) bees; 2) stinging bees such as honeybees? Not all insects that look like bees are bees, and not all bees sting.
This said, if the lizards are actually eating stinging bees I would guess they are making sure to kill the bees by biting them before swallowing them. How exactly are they catching the bees? How big are the lizards?
These for sure are stinging bees. The lizards are about 5 or 6 inches long. It looks like they are swallowing the bees whole; it’s hard to tell because they move so damn fast!
Weird coincidence. We saw a dog today that got stung by a bee on its tongue, the stinger was still in its tongue. Of course, that’s not exactly related to what you asked, except for the eating bees thing.
So this was a dog that had bees in its mouth? When it barked did it shoot bees at you?
Had to register just to say…
HAHAHAHA!
My old German Shepherd got stung by a bee. He made it a mission to kill as many as he could. He looked like he was smiling as he pulled his lips back and bit them in the air.
There are also some birds whose diet consists mainly of bees, which they catch on the wing and whose stings they carefully rub off before ingesting.
