I neither like it nor dislike it; I eat in my car sometimes, as circumstances dictate. I would also eat lunch in my car sometimes at work - I’d drive off somewhere quiet and have a nice, pleasant lunch. The wrappers and drink cups and stuff come out immediately, though - my car is not a garbage can.
I prefer to eat in my car. I find it comforting and peaceful. I’m often traveling or working at peoples houses or job sites. I am usually working alone. Eating lunch in my truck is the norm.
I don’t like eating outside alone, so in my car works best.
If I had my druthers there would never be eating in my car.
On the other hand, the car also belongs to my spouse who not only has no inhibition with eating in the car, but actually seems to like doing so.
In the name of the marriage we have compromised. I don’t complain about his eating in the car as long as he cleans up completely when he is done. If that means getting out the spray cleaner and paper towels when he gets home so be it.
It’s a bad habit I’ve gotten into since having kids–I know the kids are safely strapped down in the back, I distract them with books or toys, and voila! I’ve got fifteen minutes to myself to enjoy my food, relax, and read a book. Treasured time in a life where even using the toilet is no longer a private affair.
However, it definitely has not helped me to lose the baby weight, so I really need to cut it out.
On preview, I’m hoping it’s obvious I only do this with the car parked!
I’ll only eat in my car if my time is constrained such that I don’t have a better option. This means that anytime I forget to bring lunch to work, I usually eat a burger in my car on my lunch break (because there isn’t time to eat it at the restaurant or at my desk with only a 30-minute lunch). It’s a pain in the ass, but it’s better than not eating.
The rule at our house is no eating in daddy’s car, but mommy’s car is fair game. We’ve been eating in her car since we bought it about 8 years ago, and now there’s a permanent food smell in there. It’s gross. The only eating I will allow in my car is a small, non crumbly or crummy granola bar or something, but the wrapper is thrown out as soon as we stop somewhere. We don’t make fast food stops when we’re on the road. If we need to eat, we’ll stop at a restaurant and have a proper meal.
Drinking is okay, though.
The only time I enjoy it is if my wife and I are on a road trip with our dog. Then, sitting in the car, eating something crummy but good and giving scraps to the mutt is kind of nice in a throwback kind of way.
I have to eat in my car often, just because there isn’t enough time in the day, but that doesn’t mean I like it.
i can count on the fingers of one hand the numbers of times i’ve eaten in a car in my life - and i got my driver’s license in 1974.
it’s messy and awkward and never feels like you’re relaxing and getting that break away from the job or whatever.
My experience is that, while the passenger can eat, the driver really can’t. He might be able to eat a bit, but the passenger can complete the meal on the drive home from even the closest fast food restaurant to my house. So you’re always stuck with one person still having to eat when they get home.
So I prefer the passenger to wait so we both can eat together. But, other than that, I don’t mind eating in the car.
I put that I don’t enjoy it, but really I have no preference one way or the other. It’s just a thing as needs dictate. I eat breakfast in the car on the way to work every day, though if I happen to be very early I’ll sit down and have a proper meal.
It’d be nice if I didn’t need to do it, as despite my best efforts I frequently wind up getting food on my shirt, but I’m not left with a lot of time in the morning.
Depending on the parameters of “eating in the car”, I either enjoy it or I don’t. Either way I don’t drive often enough for it to be an issue (I don’t commute by car), but when making an infrequent fast food run I usually munch on the fries or onion rings while driving home with the goods - but would not attempt that with something like a full-on sandwich, slice of pizza, burger or chicken wing or something that would require more dexterity.
On very rare occasions (maybe 5 times in my life) I have eaten a fast-food drive-through meal in the car, like Chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s, due to being (a) already way behind my itinerary schedule and (b) starving.
I’ve certainly never been in the market for The Drib or some similar accessory to habitual eating-while-driving.
I avoid it if at all possible, but sometimes do on long road trips.
Every time I eat in my car, I ALWAYS spill something. Last week it was French fries, and three weeks ago it was ketchup.
But still doesn’t stop me XD
It can actually be nice to eat while driving if it’s the right kind of food for it, especially if I know I’m going to be sitting in traffic. Eaching some fries and some sort of simple burger or sandwich is pretty easy to do if the wrapper is done properly. Eating a large burger or a burrito is much more difficult and can be frustrating at times. Sure, I like to relax when I eat, but I dislike being in a restaurant by myself just for the sake of eating something that I can eat in my car reasonably easily. The only thing is that if I do make a mess, I have to be sure to clean it up as soon as possible to avoid it smelling bad.
Eating while driving? Heck no (unless I absolutely need a snack or something). Eating while reclining across the back seat? All the time. But I tend to prefer to eat while reclining anyway.
I eat when I’m hungry, sometimes I’m hungry in the car.
