eBook Readers

I have Microsoft Reader on my computer with almost 500 ebooks. I want to buy a Kindle or other type of reader, but would like to know if I can transfer my 500 ebooks to it and be able to read them. Which one would be the best and easiest to be able to transfer my books?

Wikipedia has a nice article with extensive comparison tables:
Comparison of e-book readers

I use calibre to reformat books as needed for my iPad. It’s free, and comes in both Mac, Windows and Linux versions.

Calibre works quite well for translating Microsoft Reader books to Mobipocket format, so you should be okay if you get a Kindle. I don’t know of any readers that natively support the LIT format, though, which is a shame because it’s significantly better than the Mobipocket format. Ah well.

From what I can recall, I’ve had no problems converting a number of .lit format books to something that can be read by my Kindle.
