Or, at least, the rub occurs soon thereafter.
Abby -
I too “applaud” your work. Frequently.
But of course mon cherie
Well am I?
Stand firm Wee Bairn stand firm, ya never know yer luck,
I was going to e-mail it to you but can’t 'cos you don’t want any contact.
Dude, it is well worth it. Her’s is the only site I have EVER paid for, I only gave up my subsciption because of my girlfriend. (not because she made me, but because at the moment I only have time for one or the other and I prefer IRL women to the internet kind.)
You do good work abby, thank you!
chowder:
Aha, it’s run by the writers of Lost!
Well, this and a recent overtime check have convinced me.
Chowder, I could have sworn there was a recent thread where someone asked for porn links and was bombarded with them, but jsut to be safe I have just e-mailed you. I thank you and my wallet thanks you
Yeah, do a search in CS for OpalCat and “non stupid porn”
I have also tried to email you chowder but your address didn’t work
Sorry to be repetitive, but can I say that you’ve done a truly exceptional job at what you do.
Really people, porn is sold just the same as any other product is marketed. And the ‘free’ versions are just like any other ‘free’ product:
-
free samples. Just like the free samples of new food items handed out in grocery stores. On a porn site, you get to see the samples for free; they are hoping you will then buy some.
-
free (advertiser-paid). Just like the free weekly newspapers given out in many cities. They are free to the reader, because the advertisers in the paper have paid for it. So some porn sites are free to viewers, because they have various ads on them that pay the cost.
-
free (get 'em hooked). Some porn sites are free for the first month, but in filling out the application you have agreed to be charged on your credit card every month thereafter. Just like the book clubs that offer you 4 free books, but send you the ‘book of the month’ every month thereafter. And make it hard for you to quit (just ask an AOL subscriber).
-
free (scams). Just like the ‘free’ weekend at a vacation condo – you just have to agree to attend a ‘short’ session with a salesman. (And you get put on a mailing list that gets sold to many others.) Some porn sites are free, but first you have to fill out a questionnaire, that asks for your email address, and lots of detailed questions about your preferences. Then that list is sold to various other sellers.
-
free (crooked schemes). Just like many firms that offer free roof inspections, tell you your roof needs repairs, and steer you to a crooked roof contractor. Or free home inspections, which are really ‘casing’ your house for a burglary. Some free porn sites try to get you to download malware, which allows them to make use of your computer (spam bots) or to collect info from your computer that they can use to steal from you.
So ‘free porn’ is a marketing ploy, just like any other ‘free’ item in society.
Thanks Rysto.
Chowder, this thread has a bunch of sites listed. IANAM, but I’d say you’re in the clear.
my e-mail to you kicked back as well
Yeah, and I believe that the free site that chowder mentioned is linked to in that thread. Look for free paysite.
Moderator NOte:
No, you can’t post a link here. Thanks for being polite enough to not do it without asking.

In all seriousness, this is probably where my confusion stems from. It’s difficult for me to appreciate how such ‘free samples’ encourage people to pony up their cash. The tactic obviously works in a grocery store because each sample is far too small to make a meal, whereas if the store gave out an entire free sample of every sandwich, beverage and sundry on display, there would be much less incentive for anyone to actually buy anything. Given that there are apparently several billion competing sites which advertise ‘free porn,’ it seems like people could easily flit, hummingbirdlike, from site to site until sated, without spending a dime. Obviously this is not the case, however.
The free weekly newspapers are a good example, since (at least in my neck of the woods) a significant fraction of their advertisers seem to be offering some variety of erotic services. But-- those erotic services are not also offered for free in the magazine (if we exclude the classifieds). So it puzzles me how a site can offer both extensive ‘free samples’ of porn, and also advertisements which are presumably also for porn. Again, I’m not arguing that the system is flawed in any respect, since it seems to work out quite profitably for all concerned.
Then again, it’s entirely possible that my palate is too unrefined to properly appreciate the distinction between ‘porn’ and ‘really good porn.’ By my standards, if her limbs are intact and the skin is relatively free of scar tissue and wattles, then it’s all good. Color me vanilla, I suppose.
Thanks to all for trying to enlighten me in this manner, especially abby for the business perspective (though I fear the details still remain something of a mystery to me, as do so many other principles governing human behavior). Thanks also to chowder for at least offering to provide education in what makes for quality porn.
abby is Abby Winters? (fanning myself–and I mean that as in “waving a fan to cool my fevered brow,” you perverts) This IS an honor!
Yes, I believe she is, and I will second/third/fourth the recommendations here - and like NAF1138 the only site I’ve ever paid for. Long before I even knew she posted here.
No longer a member, girlfriend and all that.
On a tangent - jeez, $15K to affiliates per week?! And affiliates are a small percentage of your revenue?
OK, but which would you prefer? A ten-second video clip of that intact and unscarred woman, at 300x200 resolution, or a 90-minute video of the same woman, at 800x600? Obviously, one of these products is worth more than the other. The 10-second clip may be enough for you to decide whether it’s the sort of thing you like, which would inspire you to pay to get the high-quality one.
