ECS Nforce-3 board troubleshooting help

"I have a home built PC that was running fine with a slow athlon system. I purcahsed and ECS Nforce-3 board with matched OEM CPU. I then purcahsed the correct HSF and am having a problem with the PC shutting itself down after a few minutes. It kills itself if I let it sit on the BIOS screen and I have not had a chance to install Windows on it yet.

Assistance diagnosing why it powers off would be helpful. If someone in NJ would be willing to go hands on it with me that would be even more helpful.

Look in the BIOS for a section called “hardware monitor” or something like it, and see what it says for the CPU temperature.

What’s the wattage of your PSU? Try running you computer with a minimum of peripherals attached, and see if that makes a difference in time until it reboots.

The PSU is a Raidmax ATX12V Power Model No: KY-520ATX

420W Total Output

+3.3V =26.0A
+5V =32.0A
+12V =13.0A
-5V =0.5A
-12V =0.8A
+5Vsb=2.0A

The only peripherals were the video card and two hard drives. Video card is a PNY Geforce4

Will post tempertaures when I get back tonight going to see Snakes On A Plane

Complementary to the temp check, take the side off of the case and aim a box fan in there (and turn the fan on  ). If that solves your problem, it was probably a heat problem.

Also, see if the correct CPU speed is posted during POST. If not, a firmware update could be in order. (I doubt this is the case, but hey…)
