Eddie Money's "Take Me Home Tonight"

This old warhorse of a rock ballad includes the line, “Just like Ronnie sang, Be my little baby.” Who’s Ronnie?

I think it’s Ronnie Spector of “Be My Baby” fame.

Who also sings the “be my little baby” line in Eddie’s mix.

Oh yes, it is - and that’s Ronnie singing “Be my little baby” throughout the song, including the “oh oh oh oh oh” - a signature bit of hers from the original Be My Baby.

Be My Babyby the Ronnettes is a quintessential example of Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound production style. Brian Wilson has referred to it as the best song ever (wiki link which includes Wilson quote)…

Hey, thanks - good to know.

I hadn’t realized her and Phil’s marriage was so fraught. Yikes!: Ronnie Spector - Wikipedia

You cannot be surprised at this.

There were stories that Specter held the Ramones at gunpoint when they were working together on an album.

The best part of the stories is that the Ramones took it in stride, as this was something perfectly normal in Phil’s world.

I’m sure when Phil Spectre was sent off the prison, the most common reaction among his family and friends must have been, “Wow, how did he manage to avoid this for so long?”

I knew the answer to the OP’s question, but I beg to differ with Brian Wilson. The best song ever, and also Phil Spector produced, is “River Deep, Mountain High”.

You know, after all these years, I did not know that Eddie was saying “Just like Ronnie …”

I could never quite make out the words.

That’s also her shimmying quite irresistably in the music video. One of my favorite brainworms.

Actually, I was. Before now, I knew very little about either of them.
