Eddie Murphy to lead reboot of “Pink Panther”

Story here.

I’m torn. He’s obviously got the talent to pull it off, but his recent track record concerns me.

Thoughts?

Man, are they just totally out of new ideas? I like Eddie Murphy, but can’t they come-up with a new vehicle for his talents?

Sorry Eddie, but no. I just can’t see it. But then again, I didn’t really care for the Pink Panther when it came out as I was too young enough to appreciate it I guess. I’ve tried to watch it, but 10 year old me just doesn’t like it. I did like the theme song.

Can’t see Eddie doing much with it, he is going to be compared to Peter Sellers, who was an absolute genius in other films I’ve liked. I think he is setting himself up for failure, but what do I know. Eddie is a pretty sharp and funny dude in his own right.

Hope he does better than Steve Martin did.

I just hope the screenwriters get the obligatory “Black Panther” joke out of the way early.

Where’s the MCU when we need it? Or was that the other comic universe? You know, those other people.

It’s not out of character for him; he’s previously done reboots (if that’s the right word) of The Nutty Professor and Dr. Dolittle.

Who’s going to be Kato?

In fairness, they’re both known for their ability to play multiple roles in the same film.

I agree with others, I don’t see it. To me, it’s sort of an iconic role, and I think it was already said, are there no new ideas!

This. A thousand times this!

Didn’t Steve Martin also pick the bones of this? I mean pay homage.

It all makes sense when you realize “Inspector Clouseau” is a code name.

(“This never happened to the other fellow!”)

Who works for “D”, and has an assistant “K”.

Inspector Clouseau is bumbling and clumsy. I don’t see Eddie Murphy playing that type very well.

Well, yeah, making this a re-reboot. [More vulture-y than homage-y if you were to ask me]

I’d love to see an updated Pink Panther and Inspector Clouseau movie. But I don’t see a comedian the age of Eddie Murphy doing it well.

As did Roberto Benigni. He was the bastard son of Clouseau. As was the film.

Really good point. Murphy is best with his quick wit and dialogue, and I do not see him doing the kind of slapstick the Pink Panther is known for (e.g. the epic fight scenes with Kato).

The only living actor I can see in that role is Rowan Atkins and he’s way too old now. It also needs a director like Blake Edward’s who can make that old fashioned slapstick and farce look fresh.

Or … You completely reimagine Clouseau as somebody not bumbling and clumsy. I don’t have the creative chops to see how that could work, but then again I’m not a Hollywood bigshot.
